本系（科）目前發展重點，係以培育擁有人文素養、商業實務與英、日語教學
各領域專長之基層與中階英、日語人才，教學目標則以理論及實務並重，茲將本系（科）發展特色分述如下：
1.學階制之課程規劃
課程規劃實施學階制，除基礎英、日語文技能訓練課程、第二外語課程外，
並發展英日語教學與國際商務相關各式專業課程，且逐步規劃課外實習，使學生熟悉業界文化與溝通技巧。
2.學程課程
(1)幼兒美語學程。
(2)觀光英、日語學程。
3.高科技之英、日語文教學
因應網路科技時代潮流，乃引進先進科技軟體，實施研究方法與應用，以及
外語能力檢定與測驗之實務課程e化教學，並藉自學中心網路教學平台計畫之學習，以發揮高科技之便捷性，進而提升教學成效。
4.英、日文組畢業門檻
為使學生畢業後能發揮學以致用實效，乃透過適當課程與師資安排，以增強
學生取得相關專業技術證照能力。為澈底落實理論與實務並重之教學理念，以確保本系（科）畢業生英、日文品質，培育符合市場需求之英、日語文專業人才，本系（科）教師積極輔導學生參加英、日文能力檢定考試，並訂定畢業門檻。
本系（科）94學年度入學之日間部五專、二技、四技新生開始實施英文組
畢業門檻為具備全民英檢初級及格，日文組為具備日語能力測驗二級及格；但英文組自96學年度入學之日間部五專、四技、二技新生，提高畢業門檻為具備全民英檢中級初試及格，否則均必須加修四學分之相關科目始得畢業。
5.補救教學
本系（科）利用英、日語學習區資源，實施適才性補救教學，給予低成就
學生補救學習機會，以激勵學習動機。
6.留學與遊學
鼓勵學生前往國外姐妹校留學或遊學，以拓展學習領域與增進國際視野。目前本系（科）日文組有五位同學在日本東京杏林大學攻讀外語學部之留學以及英文組亦有五位在國外留學。96、97、98學年度各有16位同學前往杏林大學遊學，96學年度亦有18位同學與98學年度有22位均前往日本沖繩JSL國際學院遊學，以及96學年度第一學期參加第二屆海南大學-台灣高校大學生冬令營參加者有6名，成效良好，頗獲好評。

2. A Focus on Listening and Speaking
The basic trainings in pronunciation, listening, and speaking are all conducted by foreign teachers so that students can be well grounded in speaking and listening abilities.
3. Teaching Excellency
Tajen always emphasizes language teaching. Abundant books, magazines, journals, and language learning materials are stored as supplementary materials for students to maintain learning effectiveness and to satisfy individual needs. The Department also buys a great number of films and videos for language instructions. The present facilities cover a variety of professional classrooms: language labs, multimedia classrooms, digital communication labs, one multi-language interpretation classroom, and one professional speech and performing arts center.
4. Foreign Language Proficiency Licenses and Testing
Besides the educational objectives, the Department directs
students to attend ability-oriented and authorized tests of foreign languages,
such as TOEFL, TOERIC, GEPT, and tests of Japanese language proficiency.
Students of higher grades are required to achieve the desired criteria of
language abilities for graduation.

5. Educational Doctrines of Internationalization
Combining both theory and practice, curricula design aims to train economics and trade personnel with international vision, which resides in foreign language ability (both English and Japanese), information management ability, as well as professional knowledge of commerce, so that graduates of this Department satisfy the society need, which is apparently being internationalized.
