To cope with the government’s project of establishing Taiwan as the Asia-Pacific Regional Operations Center, which requires professionals in foreign languages and international business management, the Department of Applied Foreign Languages was authorized by the Ministry of Education and formally established on August 1, 1997. In 2005, Tajen was officially promoted to become “Tajen University”, and the department was also restructured.  The Department used to offer the following academic programs:

1)  5-year junior college program (day division only in both English and Japanese Divisions).

2)  2-year junior college program (day and night divisions in both English and Japanese Divisions).

3)  4-year college program (day and night divisions for English) and 2-year college program (day and night divisions and in-service program for English, only day division for Japanese).

At present, the Department offers a 4-year college program (day division) in applied Japanese.
